Nokia N95

Nokia N95

If you have one of these and wonder will I sell my phone, one of the guys here at Cellzone had one of these until very recently and found a quick buyer for his phone. Here is an unbiased review.

Main features

Camera

The N95 was the first phone to incorporate a 5MP camera, which placed it in the same league as purpose-built photo cameras. Not content with this, Nokia gave it Carl Zeiss optics, which gives this phone high end photographic quality.

The camera features:

Smart phone

What are the minus points with this phone? The Symbian operating system used in the N series has a reputation for being bug-ridden and slow.

However, once you get used to operating the phone, it is expandable and various types of software can be installed. Very helpful for people constantly on the move who need high compatibility applications that permit the use of commonly used files. This can be a boon if you are on the move constantly and in need of universal applications that allow you to view and use commonplace files.

The huge range of applications available is impressive and even allows the phone to be used as a universal infra-red remote control.

GPS

The phone has a built in GPS receiver and satnav software is available on the phone. This has basic map coverage and you can use it generate directions. Key features are subscription-based.

£50 bus you map and software updates, full GPS tracking and voice-over directions for 3 years. New software users receive a 3-day free trial.

WiFi

The phone’s built in WiFi connector allows you to connect to public and private WiFi networks. This permits browsing and downloading from the Internet, without the overhead of service charges from your network provider. The Internet can also be accessed at higher speeds of up to 10x the speed of your 3G connection.

Audio

The N95’s audio quality is impressive. It has two speakers either side of the screen and is able to produce excellent sound that far surpasses its peers. With this sort of quality it needs a form of media control and its dual slide feature provides this. Sliding the screen both ways gives you more surface area for buttons and features. By sliding the screen up a standard keypad is revealed. Sliding the screen downwards accesses the media control keys allowing control of music and videos through facilities to pause, stop and skip/fast forward tracks.

A great feature of the phone is the ability to plug in a standard 3.5mm jack port. The phone can then be used with devices such as earphones and TV-output.

Personal Views

There’s more to this phone than meets the eye and there are plenty more features to discover than I have mentioned. That’s the fun of using the phone—a journey of continual discovery.

A phone with some complicated functionality recommended for experienced mobile users. You will also need some patience to cope with its somewhat erratic and slow performance at times.

Overall, 3 out of 5 seems reasonable.
