Last year a new eco-friendly campaign was launched in India headed by the country’s biggest Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan.

The recycling project is called Planet ke Rakhwaale (Saviours of the Planet) and is already active in 28 cities. So far over 500,000 phones and accessories (15.6 tons!) have been collected for recycling.

The campaign has helped raise awareness of the need to recycle old mobile phones to over 145 million people living in India.

Collection points have been set up across the country for people to take their old devices to.   So far there are over 1,400 collection points and people are being offered advice on how to dispose of their old mobile phones responsibly.
