Boots Enters the Mobile Phone Recycling Market

Boots has recently launched a programme to give UK customers a quick and easy way to sell their old handsets to the well-known chemist and thus encourage mobile phone recycling.

Visitors to the Boots’ website just enter the model of their mobile and progress through a number of steps.  In addition, information and tips are given on how to recycle various types of electrical consumer products.  As with other mobile phone recycling websites, Boots provide a postage-paid envelope to enable the customer to send their phone in.  Customers are also able to obtain envelopes from their local Boots shop.

The Boots recycling scheme does not offer direct cash-back.  Instead, they offer points from their rewards programme in return for sending in the old phone.  The reward points can then be used to buy products at Boots stores.  The points are added to the customer’s Advantage Card within 30 days of the handset being received.

The Boots recycling programme also now extends to digital cameras, printer cartridges and MP3 players.  Reward points will be given on all qualifying electrical products received for recycling, subject to a maximum of six items from each household within a six month period.  Customers have the option to accumulate reward points in this way that can be put towards large purchases.
