Ambrish Bakaya, The Director of Corporate Affairs for Nokia India says:  “We keep trying to do new things in our recycling programme and thought this was an interesting way to reward people who participate”.

This is just another way that Nokia is using innovative programmes to get consumers and corporates to take responsibility for recycling.  Other methods used have been giving away coffee mugs and music vouchers but Bakaya says: “we are moving to more meaningful and symbolic gifts that stress upon recycling as a way of life,”

They are reaching out to stakeholders by schemes such as their take-back programme where a tree is planted for every phone returned, where they hope to plant 35,000 trees in a year.  Intensive recycling programmes at 175 offices of 21 companies are also aiming to make recycling a community effort.

Nokia are also working on a comic book in association with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to spread the message of a green planet in more a more humorous way.
