A mobile phone recycling company based in Glasgow in Scotland has increased it’s turnover by 65% compared to last year.

S3 Interactive (S3i) specialises in providing recycling solutions to the mobile phone industry.  It’s slogan is ‘bringing recycling to life’.  End of life and faulty mobile phones are repaired and resold across the world.  S3i operate on a Business to Business basis by accepting bulk returns from leading industry players such as Mobile Phone Networks, Distributors, Retailers, Repair Centres and Manufacturers.   They work on behalf of their clients by managing their electronic waste and attempting to generate the best revenue streams for them as possible.

The company, which was founded in 2003, currently employs 70 people and is based in London and Holland, but now has plans to expand into the USA.  Business has grown rapidly in recent years and S3i has seen its turnover increase from £1.2m in 2005 to almost £15m today.  They plan to double their turnover to more than £30 million by 2013.

The managing director, Philip Johnston explains: “Even through the downturn, demand for mobile phones has held firm.  There is a need to manage what happens to mobile phones at the end of their useful life, that’s where S3i comes in.”
