Electronics Recycler Predicts Increase of Mobile Phone Recycling

Electronics recycler weeebuy.co.uk is predicting more electronic waste after Christmas this year than ever before.

Weeebuy was launched in August and their slogan is ‘Weeebuy your electronic trash for cash’.  Consumers can sell their old gadgets such as old phones, hair straighteners, games consoles and sat navs on the site.

It’s an obvious fact that many popular Christmas presents will include the latest smartphones, such as the iPhone 4, the HTC HD2 or the Google Nexus S.

It’s also expected that this year consumers will make even more technology purchases then usual to beat the forthcoming VAT rise from 17.5% to 20% at the beginning of 2011.

As a result, many old phones will be made redundant and people will naturally go to mobile phone recycling websites to try to make some money from their old phones.

The co-founder of weeebuy Chris Rogerson said:

“The recession is not over by any means and with growing awareness of ‘cash for trash’ services, people are looking at ways to make money so they can get their hands on the latest gadgets. They don’t want to miss out – recycling what you’ve already got is the perfect answer to getting a better deal.  As more and more new technologies are introduced, households are adding more and more to the pile of post Christmas unwanted electrical gadgets. This coupled with the VAT increase in January will lead to a boom in spending.”
