An American company, e-Cycle LLC are planning to host a booth at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco at the end of the month.

e-Cycle buy back mobile phones for recycling as well as offering mobile data protection services.

The company aims to give attendees to the Expo an opportunity to sell their old iPhones.  Representatives from e-Cycle will value each iPhone, including damaged phones, and assess the market value of the phones before offering a price to the user.  Data security experts will help delete personal data from the old phones.

The President and CEO of e-Cycle, Chris Irion estimates that “there are approximately nine million iPhones retired for newer devices each year, and we expect that number to grow considerably within the next two years.”  He adds: “Of the estimated 140 million mobile phones discarded in the U.S., only about 10% are recycled. But nearly 50% of these devices still have a resale value. e-Cycle hopes to spread the ‘reuse and recycle’ message to Macworld attendees. Selling used iPhones is good for your bank account and great for the environment,” Irion added.

e-Cycle has recently launched an online iPhone buyback tool where consumers can sell their old iPhones and iPads.  Their aim is to offer environmentally friendly solutions to help both organisations and individuals to be more responsible with regard to mobile phone recycling.  Used mobile phones that still hold their value are bought back and others are recycled at no charge.
